The second drafting session built on the discussions held during the first drafting session, which focused primarily on gathering proposals for the expected key deliverables for the Addis meeting and deliberated on how to make the FfD process more relevant and inline with the post 2015 agenda. After first drafting session, a Zero Draft outcome document was released on 16 March 2015 in advance of the second drafting session.

The second session enabled key actors to share their views on the present document and formulate strategic messages on financing for development, including on gender equality and women’s empowerment, for incorporation in the final outcome document. The joint side event contributed to these discussions.

The side event aimed to mobilize champions for significantly increasing the scale and scope of financing needed to realize commitments on gender equality and women’s empowerment. It brought together governments, donors, civil society, and the private sector to:

  • Share evidence in support of the importance of investing in gender equality;
  • Strategize jointly about specific priorities and recommendations on gender equality in the financing for development agenda.

The speakers represented key actors, including from government ministries, international financial institutions and the United Nations, testifying to the significant practical experiences as well as advances seen and gaps remaining in means and mechanisms ensuring gender equality and women’s empowerment.
